Massage isn’t just a luxury for the wealthy — it’s an investment in your health.
Diana Gallop, a massage therapist at Remedez, knows this firsthand. She has worked in the industry for 16 years and has seen massage dramatically improve the overall health and wellness of her clients.
Aside from feeling amazing, massage has a myriad health benefits including keeping stress levels in check, releasing muscle tension, relieving pain and assisting in injury recovery.
“When you take care of the body, you have more energy, you sleep better and you can get more out of your body,” Diana says.
Jennifer Richins, another skilled massage therapist at Remedez, stresses the importance of a regular massage routine.
“It helps you stay on top of
any areas where you might have pain,” Jennifer says.
Getting a massage at Remedez is a full-body sensory experience with invigorating aromas and a tranquil atmosphere. Clients change into a robe and slippers and are given a footbath at the beginning of every massage. The footbath is a time for the massage therapist to get to know the client and find out what his or her body’s needs are so the experience can be customized.
Diana was working as a massage therapist during the September 11th tragedy, and she saw the effects of the event on the massage industry.
“People were being more choosy about where they spent their money, but they still were willing to pay for massage because it made them feel better physically and emotionally,” Diana says. “At a time when people were scared to travel, massage was an emotional getaway.”
In fact, the spa industry grew by $33 billion right after 9/11.
Remedez makes massage affordable by offering a wellness package, which is six massages for $300 (a savings of $90).

If you are like most women, there are too many times you go into your closet with the thought, “I feel like I have nothing to wear” as you stand there looking at a closet full of clothes! Your husband has no clue why you could feel this way, because in his eyes, you have more than enough to wear.

The problem is not quantity, the problem is in not having a closet full of clothes and other fashion items you know look great on you, and, more importantly, you feel great wearing. Too many times you have listened to others in making some of your fashion purchases, or you have used the “it fits and it’s on sale” reason as your only standard of what you should buy.

Take time this summer to give your closet a makeover by following these five simple steps:

Go through your clothes and create three categories: a) I haven’t worn it in a year and I probably won’t wear it in the next year. I just don’t like it. b) Maybe I like it. c) I love it! Pile “a” goes to a charity or women’s center. Go through pile “b” again and really make a decision about each item. Be really honest. Can you say you love it? If not, it goes to pile “c” which is the keeper pile.

Assess how much black you have hanging in your closet. If black clothes are taking up at least one-third to half of your closet, it is pretty gloomy in there. Commit to not buying any more black clothes until you have at least two-thirds to three-fourths of your closet in color.

Assess your shoes. Do you have some fun, stylish shoes you love? If not, it’s time to get yourself a pair.

How old is your purse? If you have been using it for more than a year, it’s time to get a new one.

Do you have jewelry you have fun wearing? Get jewelry that adds some spice to your outfits. No jewelry is like being served a birthday cake with no frosting … boring! Shoes, handbags and jewelry are what make getting dressed fun!

Giving your closet a makeover does more for you than bringing new life to your closet. You get a makeover, too, since what’s in your closet goes on you! Have fun sprucing up your closet and yourself!

Most women are confident in wearing some makeup. I find most women know how to wear foundation, blush and some eye makeup with the most common eye makeup choice being mascara. With very little added effort you can take your makeup experience to whole new level with these three essential steps most women miss. You will be amazed what these three steps do to add to your overall facial features and beauty.

Filling and framing your eyebrows with a matching eyebrow powder. This frames your face and accentuates your eyes. I can’t imagine going without my eyebrow powder! Use eyebrow powder applied with an angled brow brush rather than a pencil to create a natural look that fills in your existing brow.

Lip liner, lipstick and lip gloss is the essential trio for great, long-lasting color that creates a full-bodied lip. Lip liners that are pencil-based can often dry up. To moisten the tip, just blast a shot of your blow dryer’s hottest setting on the tip and your pencil is ready to line your lips. Next fill in with your lipstick in the same color or a coordinating color. Apply your colored or clear lip gloss and blend your lips together to make it all work. The liner frames your lip to create fullness, the lipstick fills in the color and the gloss sets both the liner and the lipstick to create an all day look.

Cover-up and camouflage before applying foundation. Your foundation will look more natural and even when you take a moment to hide any blemishes, dark circles or redness in your skin. Apply your cover-up lightly on any problem spots and blend it in before applying foundation. This gives an overall healthy glow to your face and hides any problem spots your foundation may not cover by itself.

Adding these three essential steps to your daily makeup routine takes very little time for a very huge return on your appearance. Your beauty is an essential part of your confidence as a woman. Invest in your true beauty and continue to express your feminine nature that is a gift to yourself and the world.

May is the second highest month at Remedez HairSpa for purchasing gift cards (it’s hard to beat the stockings in December). This AVEDA salon in the University Mall has become the go-to place for ideal gifts when it comes to special occasions like Mother’s Day and Christmas.
Since opening, more than 3,000 clients turned to Remedez for Mother’s Day because Remedez gift cards bring responses such as “I love it,” “You shouldn’t have,” “I really need this” or “You must truly love me.” Any of these are far better than hearing “It doesn’t fit” or “You bought me this because you want it” or “What IS it?”
Remedez is a full-service spa and offers massage, facials, body treatments, pedicures and manicures. The salon provides cutting-edge cuts and colors — all with customer service akin to their Nordstrom neighbor.
Check out our most popular Mother’s Day gift packages.

Soothing Escape
$170 ($200 value)
This pamper package includes a one-hour signature facial and a one-hour customized massage. Plus, a manicure and foot relieving pedicure.

Monday-Thursday Getaway
$50 (up to a $95 value)
A one-hour customized massage or facial can be nearly half-price on a weekday. And a facial feels just as good any day of the week.

Nurturing Relief
$95 ($105 value)
A half-hour facial and half-hour massage, followed by a pedicure.

Wellness Series
$300 (up to a $575 value)
This is the gift that keeps on giving. It is a series of any six one-hour customized massages or facials.

Make sure you send the right message — and get the right response — this Mother’s Day.

Winter takes a toll on every part of the body, says Trista Bowman, master esthetician and spa manager at Remedez HairSpa in the University Mall.
“Now is the time to get the body ready for spring,” she says. “The cold months dry out our skin, and a trip to the spa can renew skin to its dewy glow.”
As an AVEDA salon, Remedez offers massage, body treatments and skin care with natural oils and processes.
“I’m a big believer in AVEDA because I love that they care about the environment and create quality products,” Trista says.
The AVEDA sensory journey is included in 30-, 60- or 90-minute customized facials and massages. A 30-minute facial focuses on either exfoliation, massage or a treatment mask. An hour-long facial includes all three. The full 90-minute service adds a scalp and leg massage.
Remedez offers a variety of specials throughout the year, including “The Soothing Escape,” which is a four-hour pampering that includes massage, facial, pedicure and manicure.
One common misconception is that spas are a luxury for the wealthy.
“When you take time for yourself physically, it helps you rejuvenate both physically and mentally,” Trista says. “Women lift kids and groceries all the time, and they need to be kind to their skin and to their muscles by getting a massage or a facial. For many, spa services are a necessity — not a luxury.”
In addition to the pampering at Remedez, trained estheticians offer waxing and pedicures. Spring is the perfect time for these services, especially for those headed on vacations.
“When you wax frequently, you can go longer between appointments,” Trista says. “At first, hair will regrow in three or four weeks. But as you continue to get waxed, hair will slow down to a four- or six-week cycle.”
In other words, now is the time to start waxing for swimsuit season.

Camille wanted caramel highlights with melted black cherry throughout. She also wanted to pump up the volume on the sides of her hair. The stylist created a three-dimensional look by adding caramel highlights through her crown and sides. Hair extensions add volume and length.
Stylist: Kerensa Pfaff
Makeup: Trista Bowman

Sage Christensen
Extensions are a great option for the spring and summer seasons because they are low-maintenance. With extensions you don’t need to wash hair as often — hair with extensions holds curl for days and creates a cute style even with a simple pony tail. Extensions last about a year, but you’ll need to come in every six to eight weeks for maintenance.
Stylist: Carrie Stroshine

Annie Kitchen
Annie started with Remedez’s Foot Relieving Pedicure, which includes proper maintenance of nails and cuticles, exfoliation, hydrating treatment mask, massage, and finished with a peach polish and hand-painted spring wild flowers. Spring 2010 is all about pastels! Then Annie had Remedez’s Hand Relieving Manicure, topped off with a mint green polish.
Esthetician: Erika Scholz

Michelle Coy
Michelle wanted to go short for spring and have a style that suited her face shape. It only takes a little product (We used Aveda Light Elements Texturizing Cream) and very little styling time to create a look that is bold and feminine. A good short haircut that is cut to your bone structure will grow out well and sometimes even “morph” into another wonderful style.
Stylist: Danine Imboden
